Lot 394

1817 N-16 R1 15-Star Obverse EF40. Very attractive glossy chocolate brown with lighter brown toning in some of the protected areas. Traces of underlying frosty mint luster show on both sides. A beautiful example for the grade. The best identifying marks are small, light rim bruise over the second T in STATES and another over the F in OF. E-MDS. The rim cud over AM has not formed and the dash to the right from the top of the F in OF is clear. Very fine die flowlines extend from the dentils into the fields on both sides. The obverse is clearly misaligned to K-10 while the reverse is very slightly off to K-2 (the opposite direction). Called EF45 net EF40 in the Noyes census, his photo #26620. Removed from an NGC slab graded AU55 (NGC label included, #308041-020, and it shows the attribution and Reiver provenance).
Estimated Value $500-UP.
Ex George Ramont-Jules Reiver, Heritage 1/25/2006:19731.

Realized $1,725
