Lot 35

1787 Fugio Cent Newman 12-X Rarity-3 MS60. A "STATES UNITED" variety. Lustrous steel brown and light chocolate with splashes of darker olive brown, especially on the reverse. Traces of faded mint color remain visible on both sides. There is no wear on this piece and satiny luster shows in the fields and protected areas, but there are a few of the usual planchet fissures and impurities that seem to plague these early coppers. The most-significant planchet flaw is a vertical fissure down from the right edge of the sundial. Most likely from the famous Bank of New York Hoard of mint state Fugio cents. Weight 157.6 grains.
Estimated Value $1,500-UP.

Realized $1,955
