Lot 347

1816 N-1 R4 VG10. At least 5 points sharper but much of the planchet is covered with extremely fine roughness, strongest at stars 10-13. There are traces of shallow verdigris in protected areas on the reverse, mostly at STA in STATES. The notable contact marks are a dull diagonal nick under the N in CENT, a couple more very thin ones over that C, and a small rim bruise at the M in AMERICA. Slightly glossy dark steel and olive with lighter steel toning on the highpoints. Looks better than it might sound, but it is not perfect. MDS with an irregular rim cud break from star 8 to star 11 and a fine die crack through the tops of NITED.
Estimated Value $200-UP.
