"J. GAULT" EP-78, HB-131, S-96, 5¢ Plain frame. Fr-EP-78. The case of this Gault piece displays mottled olive and chocolate brown surfaces. The edge reveal and tooling marks at the top of the reverse suggest either a replaced stamp or improper assembly. The stamp itself is remarkably bright and almost perfectly centered. The mica is about 90% clear with only minor crazing and a small crack near the top rim. Actually a very attractive piece despite its flaws. Very Fine. Ex: Bowers & Merena 11/2009:54.
Estimated Value $500 - 600.
The Samuel J. Berngard Collection.
