Lot 2865

South Carolina April 10, 1778 15s. PCGS About New 50. Fr-SC-150. There are four common denominations from this date of issue, and the remaining four are very scarce in all grades. This 15 shilling note that displays the "Rising Sun" vignette is as nice as any we've seen. It is free of any flaws save for a tiny nibble in the lower left corner, which was undoubtedly accounted for in the grade as the note has but a single light bend and would otherwise easily grade 55 or 58. This piece is considerably nicer than the Apparent About New 55 example that sold last September in a Heritage sale for $1,265, and we wouldn't be at all surprised with a realization today well over our perhaps conservative estimate. An important offering for the Colonial or South Carolina specialist.
Estimated Value $1,500 - 2,000.

Realized $1,150
