Lot 1886

1873. Open 3. PCGS graded MS-63. Well struck and frosty, a splendid offering. That is what makes numismatics so exciting. It is full of stories about old-time hoards of gold coins like the present Liberty Type 2 twenties where one knows everyone who is anyone will be out to bid. The result of careful grading today, each and every one deserves to be studied in a manner that would never have been tolerated in the happy-go-lucky days of pre-Third Party grading. The coin seems to remember everything about what it was like to be struck at the Philadelphia Mint in 1873, it’s fresh appearance right there to behold and so unlike most early twenties. Pop 128; 8 finer, 2 in 63+, 5 in 64, 1 in 65 (PCGS # 8967) .
Estimated Value $8,000 - 9,000.
The William H & Beuelaress K. Helem Collection.

Realized $9,775
