1853-O. NGC graded AU-58. Well struck and untoned with reflective mint luster within the protected areas. Only 71,000 minted of which merely 351 examples are estimated to have survived. According to the authoritative Bowers Red Book of Double Eagle Coinage, the 1853-O "is the gatekeeper to what becomes a series of hard-to-find New Orleans double eagles." Usually with areas of light striking in the centers of the obverse and reverse. this choice AU58 example is very bold throughout, and includes full stars. Pop 31; 4 finer with 3 in 61, 1 in 62 (PCGS # 8910) .
