Shuttle Program, Undated, Deke Slayon Handwritten Draft Letter, A five page handwritten letter "To: CA / From: LA-15 / Subject: Flight Terst Philosophy & Progression". This letter is hard-hitting and to the point, expressing Slayton's disagreements very bluntly. The opening paragraph reads: "It has become painfully evident in recent weeks that your organization has become a major impediment to the logical progression of the STS flight test program…" (and concludes:) "As a final effort to be constructive, I suggest you go back and review how we got to the moon in 1969 with Apollo 11. My guess is your current aggressive management techniques might have made it happen by 1979, with some luck." Although not signed, Slayton's handwritting and style are evident proof of the originality of this letter. Fascinating reading.
