[George Washington] Five Generations of Washingtons, Documents Signed by Washington's brother and members of his family going back five generations. Charles Washington (1738 - 1799), youngest brother of George Washington and founder of Charlestown, West Virginia. Document signed as magistrate in Spotsylvania County, Virginia, onep, September 3, 1771, acknowledging that the statement of one William Templeton is correct. In part: "…Parson McDonald had a Negro Sale the year before he died at which Sale Colo. Champe purchased an old Negro Fellow, a Negro Woman, & some Children, not upon his own Acct but with intention to sell again to reduce the Parson's Store Acct…" 1526 indenture signed by Lawrence Washington, George's quintuple great-grandfather. Receipt signed by Robert Washington (1544 - 1619), George's great-great-great-great grandfather, one page, [Northhamptonshire], April 2, 1599. With the Washington family crest in the form of a shield imprinted on one seal and a bird on the other. A receipt for "twenty pounds of current English money" from the "estate of Sir John Spencer, Knight". Robert was born at Sulgrave Manor, the Washington family ancestral estate and was the last of the male heirs to die there. Document signed by Robert's brother, Lawrence ("Lawr: Washington") as a witness, one page, 1614, being a conveyance of land between Clement Goldsmith and Samuel Warcop; housed in a green buckram case. 1652 oversize indenture signed by Sir John Washington ("Jo: Washington) George's great-great-great grandfather, and his wife Dorothy ("Do: Washington"). Document signed by Sir John's brother, Colonel Henry Washington, as a witness, one page, vellum, [Northampton], May 4, 1687. A financial document obligating one Thomas Grosham to pay the sum of 200 pounds to Richard Norosomo. All documents are vellum except the 1599 receipt and the document signed by Charles; most with original wax and vellum seals. Overalll very good. With genealogical notes and a printed photo of Sulgrave Manor in Northamptonshire, England, home of Washington's ancestors (copyright 1900 by A.W. Elson & Co., Boston). These are virtually unobtainable Washington family ancestral autographs.
