Perry, Mathew C (1794-1858) Commodore of the U.S. Navy; he compelled the opening of Japan to the West with the Convention of Kanagawa in 1854. Letter Signed ("M.C. Perry"), one page, 10 x 7¾ inches, aboard the U.S. Ship Concord, Portsmouth Lower Road, Dec. 10, 1832. To Commander William Crane, commander of the Naval Station at Portsmouth, N.H. transmitting two reports (not present) addressed to the President of the Board of Navy Commissioners. Docket on integral leaf, ink slightly light, else fine and a scarce letter signed.
