Lot 636

1855 N-9 R1 Knob-on-Ear MS63. Lustrous steel brown fading down from mint red. About half the obverse retains some of the original mint red but only the protected areas display mint color on the reverse. The surfaces are satiny and the eye appeal of this piece is outstanding. The only notable mark is a small spot of dark toning in the field close before the neck. M-LDS, die state f. The "Knob" break resting on the top of the ear is bold and the branch under the adjacent Y is slightly raised. A slightly later die state than on the preceding lot. Another top-drawer example of the popular "Knob-on-Ear" variety.
Estimated Value $600-UP.
Ex Dr. Robert J. Shalowitz 1/88-John R. Frankenfield.

Realized $1,955
