Lot 4064

Akarnania, Anaktorion, c. 310 BC. AR Stater (8.51 g) of the Colonies of Corinth type. Pegasos flying left; underneath, monogram. Reverse: Head left of Athena wearing Corinthian helmet; in right field, tripod within wreath and monogram of ethnic. Calciati II, 29; BMC 38. A fresh, crisp coin struck from early-state dies, showing only a minor die-break on the wing of Pegasos. Beautifully struck and fully lustrous. Virtually Mint State.

A glorious, well-centered example of a Corinthian type stater reminiscent of a constellation, films and even petroleum products. In Greek mythology, Pegasos was a friend of the Muses and was ridden by the hero Bellerophon against the Chimaera.
Estimated Value $1,000 - 1,250.
