1898. NGC graded Proof 64 Ultra Cameo CAC Approved. Well struck an untoned. Only 165 struck. A visually pleasing cameo Proof of the date, here with frosted motifs and deeply mirrored fields that display much mint brilliance. An attractive Liberty Proof from a small mintage, all delivered from the Medal Department at the Mint throughout the year, and as called for by public demand. Fewer than half of the original number are still extant, which makes for a certain amount of difficulty when today's collectors desire a delightful Choice Proof of the date like this Proof 64 Ultra Cameo. The low census certainly speaks volumes about the inherent quality of this beautiful coin: Pop 7; 31 finer.
