Goldberg Coins and Collectibles

Sale 65

Lot 1526

1879-CC. PCGS graded MS-63 PQ CAC Approved. Nice clear mintmark. Delicate golden-violet toning about the edges on both sides. Whereas its Philadelphia and New Orleans counterparts are popular as type coins, the 1879-CC is an elusive issue in all grades. This is not surprising since Carson City is on the Western hinterlands in an out of the way spot on the map, and so coins were minted in desultory numbers there. A well kept, lustrous MS63, the otherwise frosty surfaces display a few bagmarks here and there. The strike, while it isn’t razor sharp, is clearly normal for 1879-CC, and there are no overly flat areas that would concern bidders (PCGS # 7086) .
Estimated Value $4,500 - 5,000.

Realized $6,038
