Fellig, Arthur "Weegee the Famous". Untitled, Unpublished Photograph. Silver gelatin, 7¾ x 10 in. picturing a New York City accident or crime scene. Inkstamp on back: "Please Credit Weegee From Photo-Representatives." In the 1930s and 40s Fellig (1899-1968) was known for his stark black and white photographs of street scenes, often obtained by following emergency vehicles. He published photographic books and as early as 1943 was included in a photography show at the Museum of Modern Art. He had one-person exhibitions in the U.S. and abroad. From 1946 to the early 60s he worked in Hollywood, making short films and collaborating with directors such as Stanley Kubrick and Jack Donohue.
