Louis, Joe (born Joseph Louis Barrow) (1914-81) World heavyweight boxing champion from 1937 to 1949; nicknamed "The Brown Bomber," he is considered one of the greatest heavyweights of all time. 10¼ x 8 inch black and white photograph of Louis in boxing stance signed in black ink at lower left. No date but there is a Nov. 1948 inscription and signature on the back by Johnnie Johnston (1915-96) a big-band singer and leading man in a few Hollywood musicals of the 1940's, possibly giving this signed Louis photo to a friend. Expected light age toning and upper right tip is creased.
