Sousa, John Philip (1854-1932) American bandmaster of the US Marine Band and composer of "The Stars and Stripes Forever"and many other marches, as well as comic operas. The "March King" also invented the sousaphone. Autograph Musical Quotation Signed on an album leaf, 4¾ x 7½ in. Four bars from "The Stars and Stripes Forever," darkly penned and signed in full, followed by "Sioux City--Jul. 6 '97. Slight brushing of ink and tiny ink bleed of one letter, else near fine.
