Aviation, "The End of the Red Barron" by R. Carlin (framed to 25x23.5") This limited edition print is (only 1000 issued) signed by Capt. I. C. LeBoutillier and dedicated: "To Deke Slayton with kindest regards by Bob Carlin (the artist). Colin LeBoutillier was born in New Jersey in 1895. He crossed into Canada in 1916 and joined the Royal Naval Air Service. In 1918, Capt. LeBoutillier was in command of "B" flight of the 209th squadron in the Somme river valley. There he was witness to the attack by Captain Roy Brown in Camel B7270 and the subsequent crash of Manfred von Richthofen in his red Fokker Dr1425/17. Immediately after the crash, "Boots" flew over the crashed Triplane of von Richthofen. That is the scene depicted in the print. LeBoutillier survived the war with 10 aerial victories to his credit. He entered Barnstorming and piloted aircraft in no less than 18 movies such as "Hell's Angels and "Wings". As a flight instructor he gave Amelia Earhart her first instruction in a twin-engined aircraft and acted as a test pilot for Howard Hughes. He passed away in Las Vegas, NV in 1983. This print is the same as pictured on the www.kaiserbunker.com web site although that one is dedicated to someone else. Unusual and attractive.
Estimated Value $350 - 500.
