Apollo 16, 1972, 3-D "Landing Site" Lunar Topographical Map (originally framed to 44.5x30") This massive 3-D plastic map is an exact 1:12,500 scale reproduction of the Apollo 17 landing site at Taurus-Littrow. Produced by the US Army Typographical Command at the request of the Department of Defence, this map was used to familiarize the Apollo moonwalkers with what they would see when they approached the landing site during landing. The map also gave them a view of the surrounding terrain since they would have mainly tunnel vision during landing. The bottom of the map is faintly inscribed in blue: "With Thanks and Best Regards, John Young and Charlie Duke".
Remarkably intact given its age and quite fragile, but an important piece of memorabilia. This is only the second or third time we have ever seen one of these maps. NOTE: This piece will require special UPS packing and shipping due size and fragility (the weight is negligible). Domestic sale recommended as we cannot guarantee what customs will do to the piece if shipped overseas.
Estimated Value $1,000 - 1,500.

Realized $2,596
