Sale 63

Lot 984

1883-S. PCGS graded MS-64. A choice satiny white specimen. Often compared to the 1884-S, and like the 1884-S, albeit to a lesser degree, the 1883-S is a conditionally rare issue. Circulated survivors from the original mintage of 6.2 million pieces are readily obtainable. This suggests a wide distribution into circulation at the time. In Mint condition, however, the '83-S is scarce to rare, depending on the particular coin's proximity to the Gem (65) grade level. This very Choice quality representative is vibrant with only a few light bagmarks in the fields. The balance of the features are richly frosted, and the strike is typically sharp for the date (similar to the 1879-S to 1882-S issues). The number of scattered abrasions is not excessive for the assigned grade. Pop 366; 26 finer (PCGS # 7148) .
Estimated Value $3,500 - 3,700.
