Sale 63

Lot 935

1879-CC. PCGS graded MS-64 CAC Approved. Full sharp mint-mark plus blast white throughout. A lovely specimen and worthy of a premium bid. Although the 1880-CC, 1881-CC and 1885-CC all have lower mintage, the 1879-CC is the rarest CC-mint Morgan Dollar struck in the 1878 to 1885 early period. This fact notwithstanding, market offerings for examples that grade up to and including MS63 are anything but rare. MS64 and above are another matter entirely, however, and several months usually pass between auction appearances of coins that grade at this level.

A cornerstone issue, this beaming fresh CC-mint Morgan is bathed in thick, rich, frosty mint luster. Both sides present as brilliant at all angles, with everything to confirm the coin's originality. Pleasingly sharp in strike, as well, with exceptionally smooth-looking surfaces and cheek on Liberty for a CC-mint silver coin of any denomination or type. Virtually Gem (PCGS # 7086) .
Estimated Value $9,000 - 10,000.
