Sale 63

Lot 69

1793 S-1 R4 Chain AMERI., CAC Approved. PCGS graded VG-10. Glossy dark chocolate and steel with slightly lighter chocolate brown toning on the highpoints. The surfaces are reasonably smooth but a strong glass reveals extremely faint roughness in the fields and protected areas. No verdigris or notable signs of contact, but there is a short planchet void passing through the 93 in the date plus a couple additional planchet chips off the bust tip, as struck. The 93 is weakened by the void and only the tops of those two numerals remain visible, and they are weak. The legends and chain are strong. MDS, Breen state II, with obvious swelling at the top of the U in UNITED but no die crack through TAT in STATES. Not perfect but still rather decent for our first Federal large cent. Our grade is net VG8+. The AMERI feature is noted on the PCGS label.
Estimated Value $10,000-UP.
