This medal was probably executed by Jan Smeltzing, who, like the Protestant party in Holland, considered Monmouth rather a martyr than a rebel. Duke of Monmouth, Beheaded. Bust of Duke right. Reverse: The Duke's head upon the ground spouting out blood. Reflective surfaces with lovely old iridescent toning. Rare. Choice Extremely Fine.
