Great Britain. Medal, 1685. Med Ill. Vol. 1, p.615, 26 (plate LXIV,11). Silver. 38.2 mm. This medal was probably executed by Jan Smeltzing, who, like the Protestant party in Holland, considered Monmouth rather a martyr than a rebel. Duke of Monmouth, Beheaded. Bust of Duke right. Reverse: The Duke's head upon the ground spouting out blood. Reflective surfaces with lovely old iridescent toning. Rare. Choice Extremely Fine.
