Lot 823

1798 S-145 R3 Style I Hair with Large 8 VG10. Sharpness F15 or slightly better but covered with very fine granularity. No verdigris, just a few contact marks. These include a very dull dent on the shoulder, a few thin contact marks in the field before the face, and a scuff on the E in ONE. All these marks are old and blend perfectly into the natural toning. Slightly glossy very dark steel with a swipe of reddish toning at F-AM. M-LDS, Breen state IV early. The die crack near the dentils over OF is clear. The date is bold and the legends are strong. In addition, there is some curious diagonal reeding on the edge as often seen on this variety.
Estimated Value $200-UP.

Realized $345
