1797 NC-3 R6-. ANACS graded Good-6. Very slightly sharper with extremely fine roughness under a rather glossy dark olive patina. The highpoints are a slightly lighter shade of steel and chocolate brown. No verdigris and only a few trivial marks including a vertical nick from the O in OF down into the leaf below. This mark is very well hidden in the natural patina. The date and legends are strong except for weakness inside the wreath. ONE is weak but easily readable while CENT and the ribbon bow are faint at best. It appears the center of the reverse failed to strike up die to debris on the die while everything else was fully struck. EDS, Breen state I, before the reverse die cracked. Our grade is consistent with the slab grade. The finest known example grades EF40 sharpness net VG10 scudzy for corrosion, and it is impounded in the American Numismatic Society Museum. The best available to collectors grades only net VG7, so waiting for a really nice one may take quite a while. The NC-3 attribution is noted on the ANACS label.
