Lot 807

1796 S-114 R5- Draped Bust G6. A few points sharper, especially on the upper half of the obverse and lower half of the reverse, but the planchet is covered with very fine granularity and there is a scuff of fine horizontal scratches across the date and portrait. These scratches are old and blend perfectly into the toning, but they are visible to the unaided eye. No verdigris or additional contact marks. Slightly glossy dark steel and olive brown. The date is easily readable although the bottom is starting to fade into the rim below due to the uneven strike, and the legends are bold. Rare Terminal Die State (TDS), Breen state IV, with a very strong cud break at TY and another in the dentils left of the L in LIBERTY. Struck with the obverse slightly misaligned to the bottom while the reverse is centered on the planchet.
Estimated Value $800-UP.

Realized $1,553
