Lot 450

1851 N-20 R3 Repunched 1's MS63. Lustrous golden light olive and steel brown. The only marks are a few very tiny specks of darker toning right of star 2 and a small tick on the diagonal of N in CENT. There are very shallow low spots on the neck and in the field before the nose, and a deeper low spot rings the inside of the wreath, all as struck. E-MDS, die state a late. The repunching on the 1's is clear and the die lines in the field at the date are dull but visible. Tied for CC#5 overall but finest of the N-20 die state (states a & b are N-20 while state c equates to Newcomb's old #28). DWH #2161.
Estimated Value $400-UP.
