Lot 449

1851 N-19 R3 Second 1 Repunched MS63. Attractive lustrous bluish steel brown with 5-10% of the original mint red remaining. The surfaces are satiny and virtually flawless. A light diagonal nick right of the nostril and a faint vertical struck-through line just right of the nick are the only defects, and they are barely visible with a glass. MDS, die state d. The repunching on the second 1 is gone, the obverse die cracks are faint but visible, and the field inside the wreath is covered with fine but clear die polishing lines from a fresh lapping. This cent offers great eye appeal. Tied for CC#6 in the Grellman census. DWH #2309.
Estimated Value $400-UP.
