Great Britain. 'Cartwheel' Bronzed Proof Penny, 1797. Peck-1068. George III. Obverse: Draped laureate bust of king, legend GEORGIUS III. D: G. REX. Reverse: Britannia right with three rows of waves below and a stop after SOHO.
Peck describes this bronzed proof as 'Very Scarce' but it is now extremely rare in top grades. A stunning dark chocolate proof this specimen is free from the usual nicks and knocks which were the consequence of the heavy nature of these coins. Peck refers to the 'faint irregular line-flaws which are usually present on the broad rim of the reverse' and these are evident around the date. A very special coin. NGC graded Proof 63 Brown.
Estimated Value $1,200 - 1,400.

Realized $1,294
