Lot 447

1851 N-17 R2 MS62. Lustrous bluish steel brown with hints of sea-green overtone in some of the protected areas and traces of faded mint color remaining on the reverse. The surfaces are satiny and very attractive. Virtually flawless, a very tiny tick midway between stars 1 & 2 plus another tiny diagonal nick in the field off the nose tip offer the best identifying marks. LDS, die state c. The repunching on the first 1 and die lines in the obverse fields are gone, and there is a thin but clear rim cud break at stars 1-2. Tied for CC#5 in the Grellman census. Removed from an NGC slab graded MS65BN (NGC label included, and it shows the attribution and Reiver provenance). DWH #3006.
Estimated Value $300-UP.
Ex George Ramont 10/10/76-Jules Reiver, Heritage 1/24/06:20478.
