1851/81 N-3 R1 51 over Inverted 18 MS63. Bright original mint red toning to light steel brown on the highpoints, more than half the original color remaining. There are faint traces of an old fingerprint around star 4 and a few microscopic contact marks on the cheek. The best identifying mark is a tiny planchet chip on the rim above star 5, as struck. Sharp EDS, die state a. The repunched 51 over 81 is bold and the obverse fields are covered with diagonal die finishing lines. Removed from a PCGS slab graded MS64RB (PCGS label included). A choice example of this popular blundered date variety. DWH #2307.
