Lot 419

1850 N-24 R5 MS60+. Lustrous steel brown and chocolate with faded mint red covering at least 25% of both sides. Would grade a few points higher except for a few carbon spots, including a small one at the dentils over star 7, another hidden in the hair right of the Y in LIBERTY, and one well hidden in the leaves under the E in AMERICA. A few microscopic pinpricks right of the nostril and a faint hairline scratch in the field under star 8 are the only signs of contact, and they are insignificant. MDS, die state a (there is no state b for this variety). The reverse die lines are clear but microscopic radial die flowlines show near the dentils. CC#1 of this rare variety, the only mint state example known. DWH #2652.
Estimated Value $2,000-UP.
