Lot 410

1850 N-17 R4+ VF30. Sharpness AU50 but lightly corroded leaving fine granularity over much of both sides. There is fine verdigris dusted on both sides, mostly in protected areas. Rather glossy dark olive and reddish chocolate brown with frosty luster remaining in protected areas of the reverse. Sharply struck extremely rare terminal die state (TDS), die state c, with a bold rim cud break from star 6 to star 8, one of the strongest cud breaks in the late date cent series. Tied for CC#1 of only 3 known with this very impressive cud, and this piece is by far the sharpest of that small group. Removed from an NCS slab graded AU details corroded (NCS label included, and it shows the attribution and Reiver provenance). DWH #3003.
Estimated Value $300-UP.
Ex George Ramont 7/15/70-Jules Reiver, Heritage 1/24/06:20442.
