1840 N-3 R1 Small Date MS62. Lustrous steel brown with traces of faded mint red on the obverse, 10% remaining on the reverse. There is a thin vertical nick right of star 9 and a couple tiny rim nicks under the 0 in the date, plus a few shallow planchet voids on the rim at stars 12-13, as struck. MDS, die state b. The die defects under the date are weak but still visible and the die crack through the date and most stars is clear. CC#6 in the Grellman census. And it comes with a nice provenance. DWH #2006.
