Lot 2049

1887. PCGS graded Proof 65 Cameo PQ. CAC Approved. Lovely light golden toning. Only 1,043 struck. Careful die polishing common to so many of our early Proof gold coins is on full display here, there are no unusual abnormalities seen on this example from 1887. This Premium Gem has gleaming gold luster with attractive toning accents as mentioned. All of the design detail on both sides is sharply defined. This includes the hair curls below the coronet and the wreath's ribbon bow, areas which can show some weakness on other Proofs. Truly, what we describe for you is a coin for the connoisseur, and it is quite probable years may pass before another such Proof 65 with this coin's aesthetic appeal turns up. Pop 8; 6 finer, 4 in 66, 2 in 67 (PCGS # 87637) .
Estimated Value $7,500 - 8,000.

Realized $9,488
