Lot 2045

1877. NGC graded MS-68 Prooflike. A spectacular superb gem glittering with rich golden surfaces. Only 3,900 struck. One of the most prestigious survivors from a decidedly low mintage. We must say again, this a coin which should be considered from every angle to be fully appreciated: Fully struck devices on Liberty and the wreath; the fields reflective and Prooflike, as noted by NGC (and plain to anyone who views it first-hand). A coin like this is an event unusual for a business strike gold dollar. We can only assume it is one of the first strikes off of a new pair of dies. It could also be that the dies were repolished at some point during the production run, which happens often. That said, the coin is of importance because of the quality of the surfaces. Rarely are 1877 gold dollars found so pristine. A truly great looking coin. Pop 2; tied for finest graded in prooflike.
Estimated Value $10,000 - 12,000.

Realized $14,950
