Lot 2037

1853. NGC graded MS-63. Well struck with a hint of light gold toning. The resplendent surfaces suggest a higher grade and are thoroughly frosted with keen-edged, golden luster spiraling outward from the centers. When taking account of the coin's strike, we report that devices were struck with the primary energy required to impart all design to the outer areas as well as enough vigor by the dies to impart clear-cut centers such as hair, coronet, wreath. The stars, too, are finely detailed. A very choice specimen. (At least $65 million worth of gold was taken from California mines in 1853, according to accounts of the period, a massive amount in those days. The height of the Gold Rush.) (PCGS # 7521) .
Estimated Value $900 - 950.
The William Pannier Estate.

Realized $1,035
