1847 N-7 R2+ AU58. Glossy medium steel brown with some slightly lighter brown toning mixed in on the reverse and traces of faded mint red remaining on the obverse. Underlying satiny mint luster covers the fields and protected areas. Excellent eye appeal, just a hint of rub on the highest points from mint state. The best identifying marks are a tiny speck of carbon just right of the top of the 8 in the date and a spot of bluish steel toning at the dentils right of the top of star 11. LDS, die state e, with strong rim cud breaks from below the 18 in the date to star 1, from star 2 to star 3, and from star 11 down to star 12. CC#2 of about two dozen known in this die state. Removed from an NGC slab graded MS64BN (NGC label included, and it shows the attribution and Reiver provenance). DWH #2981.
