Lot 190

1847 N-7 R2+ F15. Sharpness near VF20 with some light contact marks on the obverse. None of these marks is distracting, but there are too many for the higher grade. A tiny pinprick on the cheek right of the nostril is a good identifying mark. Glossy light olive and chocolate brown. LDS, die state d or e. There is a clear rim cud break at stars 11-12 and another slightly less obvious one from under the 18 in the date to star 1. There may have been another rim cud at stars 2-3, but the rim is thin and worn in that area so the presence of that rim cud is uncertain. CC#2 of only 3 known in die state d, but a cud at stars 2-3 would make this the much more common die state e, which is quite possible. Reiver thought it was state d. Removed from an NCS slab graded EF details improperly cleaned (NCS label included, and it shows the attribution and Reiver provenance). DWH #2980.
Estimated Value $50-UP.
Ex Fred Borcherdt 2/9/85-Jules Reiver, Heritage 1/24/06:20271.
