1846 N-25 R6- Tall Date Repunched 1 EF40. Five points sharper but lightly cleaned and nicely retoned glossy chocolate and olive brown with lighter chocolate toning on the highpoints. Smooth, virtually mark-free surfaces. The best identifying marks are a tiny vertical nick over the right side of star 12 and a small chip out of the rim at the first S in STATES. MDS, die state b. Several dentils are crumbled together at their roots under the end of the wreath stem but the tops of CE in CENT are not joined with crumbling. The repunching across the upright of the 1 is clear. CC#2 of this very rare die variety behind a slightly finer example. The census drops off quickly after this piece with a VF30 followed by several graded F15. Removed from an NCS slab graded AU details improperly cleaned (NCS label included, and it shows the attribution and Reiver provenance). DWH #2977.
