Lot 149

1846 N-13 R3+ Tall Date Repunched 1 MS60. The obverse is lustrous light bluish steel brown with traces of underlying faded mint red. The reverse is glossy golden light brown and tan. The fields are satiny and the eye appeal of this piece is very nice. The only marks are a long, very thin nick or hairline scratch in the field before the nose and mouth and a line of thin vertical nicks extending from just right of the nostril down to the chin. Otherwise this cent is choice. E-MDS, die state b, with some crumbling inside the bottom of R in AMERICA. The coronet tip and star 6 are softly struck, but everything else is sharply impressed, including the horizontal line through the middle of the 1 (from the base of a badly misplaced 1). An attractive example in spite of the minor defects. CC#3 in the Grellman census. And it comes with an important provenance. DWH #2052.
Estimated Value $400-UP.
