Lot 124

1846 N-3 R2 Repunched Date MS62. Lustrous dark bluish steel brown and chocolate with faded mint color remaining in protected areas of the reverse. The surfaces are covered with satiny mint frost and the eye appeal is excellent suggestive of a slightly higher grade. The only marks, and they are microscopic, are a very tiny speck of carbon in the middle of the jawline and a barely visible diagonal nick in the center of the upright of the E in CENT. LDS, die state e, with strong rim cud breaks at TES and OF, and there is a small but clear void between the two cuds. The repunching on the 4 remains visible. Tied for CC#6 overall for the variety but tied for CC#1 honors among only 11 examples known in this die state. Removed from an NGC slab graded MS65BN (NGC label included, and it shows the attribution and Reiver provenance). DWH #2972.
Estimated Value $500-UP.
Ex Norm Pullen 3/14/70-Jules Reiver, Heritage 1/24/06:20228 (where misattributed as N-2 in that catalog).

Realized $978
