Lot 109

1845 N-12 R3 MS62. Very attractive lustrous bluish steel brown with 10% of the mint red remaining, although it has faded down from its original brilliance. Would rate a slightly higher grade if not for a small spot of very shallow reddish chocolate verdigris on the throat. The spot is not distracting and the overall eye appeal is exceptional for the grade. Sharply struck LDS, die state d. The thin rim cud extends from star 4 down to below star 3 and fine die cracks pass through much of the reverse legend. Tied for CC#2 overall but finest of the late die state. DWH #2040.
Estimated Value $500-UP.
Ex Doug Bird 12/89-J. R. Grellman-R. S. Brown, Jr., McCawley & Grellman Auctions/Superior 6/2/2002:232.
