Lot 942

1812 S-288 R2 Large Date Turban Head EF40. Possible Broadstrike. Sharpness AU50 or better but the highest points on the obverse are covered with fine hairline scratches, strongest on the cheek, and there are similar hairlines on the reverse rim. No roughness or verdigris. A small depression on the rim at star 13 is a good identifying mark. Frosty dark steel brown and olive brown. The fields are covered with attractive flowline luster and the eye appeal remains excellent in spite of the fine scratches. Sharply struck E-MDS, Breen state II. The diameter of this piece is about a millimeter larger than normal and the rims are wide and flat. This suggests the coin was broadstruck without benefit of a restraining collar. A sharply detailed cent with a very interesting look.
Estimated Value $1,500-UP.
