Lot 900

1802 NC-1 R5+ VG10. Sharpness VF25 but covered with very fine roughness and many small contact marks. There are traces of shallow verdigris at LIB and tucked under the throat, but the roughness is never strong and is partially offset by the glossy patina. The only notable contact mark is a small rim bruise under the 80. Glossy mix of chocolate, reddish chocolate, and steel. Not the most attractive cent, but the date and legends are strong and the bisecting die crack passing down the portrait is clear. LDS, Breen state IV. Called F12 net VG7 and tied for CC#15 in the Noyes census, his photo #28028. Comes with a nice provenance.
Estimated Value $1,000-UP.
Ex Al Collins-Dorothy Paschal-Ray Chatham-Ed Schwartz, Abe Kosoff-Kagin's 10/14/83:1050-1995 EAC Sale, lot 235.
