Lot 816

1797 S-138 R1 NGC graded XF40. Glossy dark olive and steel with underlying frosty luster covering the protected areas. Subtle hints of reddish olive toning can be found in a few places on both sides. The surfaces are smooth except for traces of microscopic roughness at OF-A. A small pit or planchet void in the field under the hair ribbon and a light nick in the field close above the bust tip are the only notable marks. MDS, Breen state III. Swelling at ES-OF-AM is obvious and a dull die crack reaches down from the base of the Y in LIBERTY into the field before the portrait. Our grade is VF30. Pop 6.
Estimated Value $2,000-UP.
