Lot 660

1794 C-8 R5 VF20. Five points sharper but the toning is a bit dark and there are a few very light contact marks on the cheek and chin, all blended perfectly into the natural toning. Slightly glossy dark steel and olive brown. Nicely struck LDS, Manley state 2.0, showing a clear die crack down through the second T in STATES. Not perfect but still quite nice for this very tough die variety. This coin placed 5th in the Half Cent Happening competition at the 2006 EAC Convention, and it ranks among the top 10 of the variety. Weight 105.6 grains. Comes with a nice provenance.
Estimated Value $4,000-UP.
Ex H. D. Gibbs-New Netherlands Coin Co. 11/28/1952-Robert Schonwalter, Stack's 1/21/03:1092-Russ Butcher.
