Lot 643

1773 Virginia Halfpenny Breen-180 MS63. Variety with a Stop following GEORGIVS. Glossy chocolate and olive brown with mellowed mint red covering 15% of both sides. Excellent luster and eye appeal. A small spot of dark toning in the field close before the lower lip is the only notable mark. Most likely from the famous Cohen Hoard, which consisted of a keg of mint state pieces discovered in 1803. This hoard was disbursed by Israel Cohen and his heirs by the end of 1929. An attractive example of this popular colonial issue which was struck specifically for use in America. Weight 123.8 grains.
Estimated Value $600-UP.

Realized $834
