Lot 497

1831 N-2 R2 Small Letters Reverse VG10. Reverse Brockage. Sharpness VF35 but lightly corroded. No verdigris, but there are some dull depressions above the N in ONE and a planchet flake on the rim over the C in AMERICA. Rather glossy dark chocolate and steel brown. This is a reverse brockage strike with no rotation or shift between the normal and incuse impressions. The 1831 N-2 reverse die was used to strike 4 different varieties, including 1831 N-2 and 1835 N-12, 13, and 18. It is not possible to be certain of which variety was being struck when this brockage was made.
Estimated Value $400-UP.
Ex Chris McCawley.
