Lot 3702

1885-CC Morgan Dollar. NGC graded MS-67. A velvety smooth and lustrous Superb Gem with an even flow of silvery radiance on both sides. The contact from the dies is virtually complete, although perhaps a hint of weakness is seen at the lower curls where they overlap the high point of Liberty's ear. Regarding this issue, at first glance, the 228,000-mintage 1885-CC looks like a fairly typical Carson City dollar date. The mintage was on the low side, however similar to other CC dates, the 1885-CC was part of the great Government Services Administration sales program in the 1970s. Included were 148,285 examples of the 1885-CC, or a little over 65% of the original mintage. The fact that so many examples of the 1885-CC were sold has perhaps made us overlook the fact that this date was considered very elusive before the sales. Pop 64; 8 finer (PCGS # 7160) .
Estimated Value $4,000 - 4,400.
